Rough weather was sweeping out of Harris County as downtown Houston workers headed for lunch but thunderstorms continued to deluge parts of Galveston, Chambers and Liberty counties. "The majority of it should be offshore within about an hour,'' said National Weather Service meteorologist Kent Prochazka.
Houston-area residents were plagued by three lines of storms that ran through southeast Texas beginning before 6 a.m. today. The storms dropped up to 2.5 inches of rain in some areas. Totals of 1.5 inch to 2.5 inches fell in a swath running generally from around Bush Intercontinental Airport to the Katy and Missouri .
There were some reports of minor street flooding caused by heavy rain in the Pasadena area. The last round of severe weather, including a tornado watch that remains in effect until 5 pm.
Storms that had been predicted to dump from two to four inches of water on the area left one-half to one inch of rain instead in most areas.
In Houston at 8 a.m., some minor street flooding was reported and nearly an inch of rain had fallen in some areas.
A tornado watch remained in effect for parts of southeast Texas, coastal waters and parts of southwest and south central Louisiana until 5 p.m. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.
